Project description:

This project refers to a six-storey building with pilotis, a basement and an attic, located in Heraklion, Crete. The property faces Karagianni Street with a slope parallel to the building line and with access to the pilotis of the building through a ramp at the upper left of the plot. On the right side of the plot there is access to an underground car park. The building includes 6 levels of residential use and a seventh which includes an interior balcony in direct functional connection with the sixth floor. On the roof of the building we suggest a roof garden. Our goal was to lighten the building shell to the highest levels, by including balconies and a roof garden. This allows the users of the houses to enjoy the views to the city of Heraklion. In these outdoor spaces that were created, we designed decorative pergolas with shades. Our goal was to contribute bio-climatically to the energy losses created by the demand for cooling of interiors that are in contact with these accessible spaces.
The materials we choose are mainly in earthy tones of gray brown, glass rooms with gray aluminum elements and glass railings for more transparency on the balconies, mainly on the facade of the building on Karagianni Street. Architectural elements such as horizontal shades are selected in the shades of dark wood and are combined with similar options in places like the entrance of the building.
